Worms fighting cancer, the flu, and ...



We may be a bit biased about the benefits of worms, but it's not unfounded. A study last year that looked at earthworm extracts found they have "shown promising antitumor activity in cervical and gastric cancer" across a number of medical studies.


Worm secretions have also been studied for their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, and in some cases are being used to develop flu vaccines that are easier to produce than the more traditional vaccines.

And then there's this: Various species of worms (including red wiggler composting worms) have been found by scientists to have properties "which may be useful as an anti-wrinkle agent." I'm not making this up - you can see for yourself here.
